Residential Treatment Services at The Bella Vita

Unlike other treatment facilities that may feel confrontational, controlling and rigid, we promise to ease the pressure you feel, giving you an environment that is structured; yet nurturing. We wish to make your experience more conducive to learning the skills that enable you to start changing your life.

The Bella Vita offers two separate types of care for both adults and adolescents in severe condition, depending on the level of treatment determined necessary upon consultation. Although the majority of those suffering from eating disorders are female, we treat both males and females. Each program focuses on your individual needs, encouraging you to take an active role in expressing your feelings, thoughts and goals. Residential or inpatient treatment is often times where those in need of immediate stabilization or 24/7 care.

Our Residential Treatment and Inpatient programs are closely monitored programs. Rapid stabilization and intensive preventive care includes monitoring of unstable vitals and labs, starvation effects, and purging and non-purging behaviors with a focus on the individual's nutritional goals while attending educational and therapeutic groups.

The Bella Vita's well-developed curriculum includes individualized, expressive therapies, and nutritional education to help patients deal with the physical danger they are putting themselves in. Our program will assist patients to establish a clear set of goals. Established boundaries that are closely monitored and reinforced will assist patients to achieve these goals.

Full Continuum of Care

The Bella Vita provides a full continuum of care for eating disorder treatment for adults, male and female, including inpatient rapid stabilization, partial hospitalization services, intensive outpatient services and Residential Treatment for adults. We offer our patients the comfort of personally knowing their attending staff, as we offer the same treatment team through all levels of care. Attending M.D.'s and R.N.'s are available to our resident patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Effectiveness of treatment is promoted through team communication and strong medical doctor involvement, directing the case and evaluating results. We encourage strong involvement as part of our philosophy of treatment, and work closely with care managers and doctors to ensure measurable documented goals that the patient understands and is committed to achieving.

Residential and Inpatient Programs

Patients attending our inpatient stabilization program are hospitalized in a comfortable unit. All treatment programming is separate, apart from others, between the hours of 7:30am and 8:30pm.

Our residential program is housed on the inpatient setting, has a less restrictive treatment program than the inpatient program with treatment done on the eating disorder unit. In each program, both inpatient and residential, eating disorder patients share dedicated rooms with one another.  To add to the comfort of their stay, patients are encouraged to bring their favorite things from home, such as comforters, stuffed animals, or leisure wear.

The program may include components such as dialectical behavioral, addictions including substance and non-substance abuse, chemical dependency, prescription addictions, experiential therapy and perfectionism.

Nutritional Rehabilitation and Psychological Growth

Typically, anorexics and bulimics that enter this particular program do so in severe condition. Food is seen as medicine. We target 1.5 – 2.5 lbs. of healthy weight gain per week over the course of our term with the patient. We establish and involve both nutritional and psychological goals from the start of treatment, in the course of a tier-structured plan that helps the patient to reduce anxiety, understand the mechanisms of healthy eating, and sustain emotional well-being. Along with emotional and cognitive integration, we focus on connection of the body and mind, developing mindfulness to access intuition and wisdom to manage and cope effectively without the focus on food.

Even in the course of anticipating the patient's discharge, we are thinking forward and suggesting multi-disciplinary approaches to recovery, such as follow-up with a primary care physician, psychiatrist, registered dietitian or therapist.
